Fractional operations support

When everything runs through you, the business can’t grow past you.

Practical Ops Co. gets the systems, processes and workflows out of your head and into the business, removing key person risk so it can run and grow without you in the middle of everything. Backed by 15 years in operations and systems.

Operational support from someone who has been inside growing businesses

Most operations help is either generic admin or someone who only knows the software. The work is hands-on, drawn from years of actually running and fixing operations inside businesses that were scaling and feeling the strain.

That means the focus is on how your business actually runs, not just which tools it uses.

Sound familiar?

  • If you’re away for a few days, things start to slip.
  • You’re still the only one who really knows how half of it works.
  • Customers, staff and suppliers all come back to you for answers.
  • Growth feels like it would just mean more of you, not less.

Experience

Real operating experience

Practical Ops Co. is led by Nick Eaden, a fractional operations manager with 15 years in operations, business management, sales and systems.

Nick has worked across online education, technology and software, online marketplaces and outsourced processing, in environments ranging from early-stage startups through to listed businesses.

The focus across all of it has been the same: making businesses run better by documenting processes, removing key person risk, improving reporting and reducing the time owners spend on low-value work.

Five years inside the systems of an education business

Dr Angela Cadogan
Dr Angela CadoganDirector, Physio Academy

Nick has worked with our small but growing company for the past 5 years, and I’m yet to find something he can’t do! He works behind the scenes across almost all of our IT systems including our eLearning platform, website and app integrations, ensuring everything runs smoothly, securely and efficiently. He has an exceptional ability to optimise systems for performance, compliance, functionality and marketing, while also taking on more complex development projects when needed.

Nick is our go-to person whenever something goes wrong. His troubleshooting skills are outstanding, his work is thorough and efficient, and he has always found a solution, no matter how complex the problem. I would recommend Nick without hesitation to anyone looking for someone who can solve systems problems, improve workflows and deliver reliable, high-quality technical solutions.

DERISKING

Operations support that removes key person risk

When too much of how the business runs lives in your head, the business carries hidden risk. Practical Ops Co. combines operational judgement, customer experience, sales process understanding and practical systems capability to find where the business depends on you, and build it so it doesn’t.

1Assess the risk2Solve it

Find the dependencies

Pinpoint the tasks, decisions and logins that only work because you are there, then remove the risk one by one.

Operations and systems

Process documentation, systems configuration and workflow design that get knowledge out of your head and into the business.

Customer and admin workflows

Cleaner customer journeys, more repeatable admin and support queues off your plate.

Owner time back

An operating rhythm where decisions and processes don’t all route through you.

This also matters if you are thinking about the future of the business. A business that runs through the owner is harder to sell, harder to hand over, and harder to scale. Removing key person risk builds something with genuine value beyond you.

Practical Ops Co. focuses on operations, systems and workflows. Where specialist work like design, copywriting or course content is needed, Nick can help scope it and bring in the right person.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does this cost?+
Operations Reviews start from $500. Cleanup Sprints and ongoing Fractional Operations Manager support are scoped based on what the review finds, so you get a clear number before anything is agreed.
What happens in an Operations Review?+
A focused look at your systems, workflows, customer journey, admin processes and where the business depends too heavily on you. You come away with a clear view of what is working, what is messy, where the key person risk sits, and what to fix first.
Do I need to already know what’s wrong?+
No. Most owners feel something is off but can’t pinpoint it. That’s exactly what the Review is for.
Is this remote or in person?+
Both. Most engagements work well remotely over video calls and inside your existing tools, and in-person sessions are available too, depending on what suits the business.
How long does it take?+
A Review usually wraps in 1 to 2 weeks. Cleanup Sprints vary depending on scope, and ongoing support runs on a regular weekly or fortnightly rhythm.
What if I only need help with one specific thing, like the customer journey?+
That’s fine. Some engagements are narrow and specific, others are broader. The Review is what sets the scope, not the other way around.
